The 19th session of SLEMA Energy Management Forum (EMF) was held at the SLEMA office on 23rd March 2017 with the participation of SLEMA members and guests. Mr. Sanath Kumara, Board Member of SLEMA and the Branch Manager (Moratuwa), Lanka Electricity Company (Pvt) Ltd. made a presentation on the topic “Observed and Learnt Lessons from the Japanese Renewable Energy Technologies”. The resentation was based on the experience gathered by Mr. Kumara during the “Multicounty Observational Study Mission on Solar and Renewable Energy” workshop held in Japan he attended in 2015 representing SLEMA.
With an introduction about the workshop, Mr. Kumara described the program which was conducted with presentations, interaction sessions, group discussions and site visits. Solar, wind, geothermal and hydrogen energy carriers and storage were discussed in detail, Japanese energy policies, Japanese research centers, smart city concept, plant factory learnt at the workshop and cultural experiences had in Japan. Concluding the knowledge sharing EMF, factors influencing the development of renewable energy in a country were discussed taking the Japanese examples observed by Mr. Kumara during the mission
