1984 - Establishment of SLEMA
Inception: The SLEMA was founded as an outcome of an initiative by the Ministry of Power and Energy to organise a group of professionals to deal with the aftermath of second oil shock in the early 1980’s.
1994 - SLEMA was incorporated as a professional association by Parliamentary Act No. 1 of 1994

1997 - SLEMA First office premises
First office premises at Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7
2003 - SLEMA moved office
SLEMA moved office to 29, Fairfield Gardens, Borella.
2009 - 25th anniversary of SLEMA
Silver Jubilee
Special activities were initiated to commemorate the 25th anniversary of SLEMA
An island-wide poster competition was held among the school children under two age categories to mark the Silver Jubilee of SLEMA; organised in association with the Ministry of Education
A special series of articles in newspapers were published.
2009 - Strategy and Future Directions of SLEMA
Board members and the past presidents of SLEMA established the Vision and Mission statements for the organisation as a guide to its operating strategy and future directions.
2013 - The Sri Lanka Energy Audit Manuals were published by SLEMA
The Sri Lanka Energy Audit Manuals were jointly published by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority and the SLEMA.

SLEMA Journal was made available online through Sri Lanka Journals Online (SLJOL)
