36th Annual Sessions on 25th July 2025

The Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association (SLEMA) successfully held its 36th Annual Sessions on 25th July 2025 at the Orchid Hall, BMICH, under the theme: “Battery Energy Storage Systems to Enhance the Use of Renewable Energy in Sri Lanka.”
The event focused on the critical role of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in enhancing the integration of renewable energy sources across Sri Lanka. The sessions featured insights on rooftop solar integration, grid-scale applications, cost-benefit analysis, and implementation pathways.
We were privileged to welcome a distinguished lineup of speakers, including:
• Keynote Speech – Prof. K. T. M. Udayanga Hemapala (Secretary, Ministry of Energy / Chairman, CEB)
• Batteries to Resolve Rooftop Solar Issues – Dr. Narendra de Silva (Lanka Electricity Company (Pvt) Ltd.)
• International Experience in Using Grid Scale Batteries – Dr. Shantha Ranatunga (Australian Energy Market Operator)
• Techno Economic Considerations for Adoption of BESS in Sri Lanka – Dr. H. M. Wijekoon (DGM – Transmission & Generation Planning – Ceylon Electricity Board
• Way Forward with BESS – Prof. Asanka Rodrigo (University of Moratuwa)
